Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Property Development Manager at SBS Properties in Mombasa, Kenya.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Property Development Manager to lead and manage real estate development projects from inception to completion. As a Property Development Manager, you will be responsible for driving projects through the acquisition, planning, design, construction, and sales or leasing phases. Your architectural and engineering expertise will guide project design and execution, ensuring quality and feasibility throughout the development process.

Your day-to-day tasks may include managing development projects, coordinating with contractors, architects, engineers and suppliers, ensuring compliance with regulations and permits, conducting market research, and analysing opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence and feasibility studies to assess project viability
  • Manage the acquisition process, including negotiations and contract drafting.
  • Oversee project planning, including obtaining necessary permits and approvals.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals to develop project plans, timelines, and designs.
  • Provide technical guidance on architectural and engineering aspects of projects to ensure compliance with standards, regulations, and design excellence.
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards. This will include site visits.
  • Analyse and manage project risks, developing contingency plans as needed.
  • Coordinate with sales, marketing, and leasing teams to ensure seamless project delivery and handover.
  • Prepare regular reports on project status, financials, and performance for senior management.
  • Foster strong relationships with local authorities, community stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Work with management on the administration of existing property assets.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in property development or a related field, a successful track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Urban Planning or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) are a plus.
  • Strong architectural or engineering skills, with the ability to review and interpret technical drawings and plans.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools
  • In-depth knowledge of local real estate markets, zoning laws, building codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with industry software and tools for project management and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
