Wild Dog Monitoring Officer- Zoological Society of London (ZSL)

Overview of the role:

To lead project activities relating to African wild dog monitoring in the Tsavo ecosystem, as part of the project “Equitable Responses to Illegal Wild Meat Hunting in Tsavo, Kenya”, including contributing to camera trap surveys, coordinating the deployment and monitoring of GPS- and Daily Diary collars, making visual observations, and contributing to data curation and analysis

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate efforts to deploy collars on African wild dogs, in collaboration with KWS veterinarians
  • Monitor collared and un-collared packs through visual observation to record demography, behaviour, and diet
  • Maintain databases of identity photographs
  • Contribute to park-wide camera trap surveys led by UoW colleagues
  • A degree, or above in a subject related to conservation/natural resource management/social science/community development or equivalent level of work experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with KWS and wildlife in the field
  • Monitoring wildlife and survey experience A valid driving license is required for this role.
  • An ability and willingness to travel and be willing to work outside of normal office hours as necessary (weekends and evenings).
