Publishing Production Assistant at Oxfam
Job description
Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty.
Do you enjoy publishing processes and want the chance to work in a team shaping publications with global impact?
The Team:
The Communications for Impact (Publishing) Team supports the development of Oxfam’s long-form content for advocacy, campaigning, research, learning and knowledge exchange. Oxfam publications are shared widely with policy-makers, researchers and practitioners across the world through Oxfam Policy & Practice and other sites.
The Role:
The Publishing Production Assistant’s role is to provide support on the production aspects of publications, reports and white papers developed by teams around the world. The role will involve working with Editorial Project Managers, authors, freelance editors and designers, and with translations, operations support and finance staff. The role requires close attention to detail, multiple deadlines, and good digital publishing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake production tasks, including formatting text and graphics, generating metadata and PDFs, uploading papers to Oxfam’s digital repository and making ad hoc corrections.
- Provide support on answering queries about publishing processes, scheduling future publishing projects and tasks.
- Administer project costings, freelance contracts, payments and recharges.
- Preparing text and images for use in translation.
- Contribute to innovations which improve publication accessibility and reach and which remove barriers in the editorial workflow.
This role will give you an opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team who make a difference to the way Oxfam communicates with professional and practitioner audiences, influencing sector debates and practices. It also offers the opportunity to work with a group of skilled and diverse people from around the world who are passionate about what they do.
Diversity and Inclusion:
We would welcome applications from people from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with lived experience of the issues we work on and those from under-represented or disadvantaged groups.
Disability Confident Employer Commitment: Oxfam is a disability confident employer, which means that we strive to recruit people and retain them in ways that are flexible to the requirements they may have as a result of disability.
Flexibility:
We believe flexible working is key to building the Oxfam of the future, so we’re open to talking through the type of flexible arrangements which might work for you. We think this role would work well as a full-time job connected with our Oxford, UK office or our Nairobi, Kenya office (with flexibility to work from home within our hybrid working arrangements).
