ABOUT YOU
You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage a wide variety of relationships utilizing collaborative consultation, communication, and negotiation skills. You will also have excellent problem-solving skills, demonstrates resilience and initiative when face with challenges.
Furthermore, you will have the ability to work well with others under deadline situations and juggle several priority tasks. You will also have good presentation skills (both written and oral) and ability to communicate technical materials to a mix of audiences and for differing purposes using print, electronic, and presentation media. Additionally, you will be an energetic self-starter with resilience, pace, interpersonal flexibility, and comfort with ambiguity to succeed within the evolving and sometimes demanding contexts. You must be able to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and have demonstrated capacity to work effectively in cross cultural / mixed language environments. You will also have financial Management skills especially development & management of budgets and budget reports and high sense of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality. Finally, you will have the ability to meet deadlines and juggle several tasks at the same time and you will be a good report writing and documentation skills. You will have demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment and strong organizational skills.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Project Assistant will be accountable for supporting the project team in the coordination and implementation of the approved project activities, working with partners at the county level in Kenya to ensure the achievement of timely and efficient high-quality deliverables in line with agreed project guidelines and objectives. The Integrated Cataract project aims to strengthen capacity of county health systems to ensure eye healthcare is accessible to everyone, including marginalised communities, women, and girls. This project is anchored within a health system strengthening approach and it is designed to integrate eye health within the Universal Health Coverage Framework.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the implementation of approved Projects in accordance with agreed Project Implementation Plans, work plans and annual budgets.
- Support the Program Manager in ensuring that program activities are timely planned, implemented, monitored, and reported through submission of timely quality quarterly reports. Advise on any developments that might necessitate deviation from planned activities and ensure that the Program Manager and relevant team members are made aware of relevant meetings, forums etc. taking place in the counties.
- Identify and build partners’ capacity and support partners with timely mobilization of services to initiate and complete activities.
- Work with the Program Manager, Program coordinators and Project officers to ensure equity in access to eye health services.
- Support Partners prepare annual financial budgets, plan and monitor monthly/quarterly expenditure against output and budget targets and ensure submission of timely accurate monthly and quarterly financial returns, and utilization of project assets and resources as per The Fred Hollows Foundation’s policy.
- Support the Program Manager in organizing and monitoring The Fred Hollows Foundation Kenya (FHFK) and other joint engagements with the County health teams, relevant County departments and other partners.
- Support FHFK communication and fundraising initiatives through identification and sharing of innovative ideas and compelling beneficiary stories and case studies. Ensure branding per FHF guidelines.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Minimum of 2 years working experience with a reputable NGO.
- Knowledge of project design, project management, budget development and monitoring.
- Hands-on experience in project implementation and working through partners and proven ability to influence and work with partners/stakeholders for expected project results.
- Knowledge of health and development issues in Kenya.
- Experience in health advocacy and partner capacity development.
- Adequate knowledge and experience in advocacy, capacity development and Healthy ageing working through community-based associations.
- Ability to support the development of skills and capacity including training initiatives.
