Legal Manager @ Chint PVSTAR

Job Summary:

Chint PVSTAR is seeking an experienced Kenyan Subsidiary Legal Affairs professional to handle a wide range of legal matters related to the company’s operations in Kenya and the African region. This role will involve contract drafting and review, dispute resolution, legal support for business operations, and providing expert legal advice across multiple departments. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Kenyan law, litigation, and arbitration, as well as the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to mitigate legal risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Management:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for Chint PVSTAR’s operations in Kenya and the broader African region. Provide legal guidance on potential disputes and ensure contracts align with legal requirements.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
  • Handle legal issues arising from business litigation and disputes. Provide legal support including document preparation, evidence organization, and court representation in various legal proceedings.
  • Court Orders and Debt Collection:
  • Apply to the court for necessary orders and manage debt collection and enforcement efforts in Kenya and across the African region.
  • Collaboration with Headquarters:
  • Work closely with the International Legal Department at the Chinese headquarters to resolve legal issues related to daily business operations.
  • Legal Support for Internal Teams:
  • Provide legal advice to departments such as sales, supply chain, and administration to help mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with local and regional regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • A law degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in the Kenyan legal industry.
  • Prior experience working at a law firm or as in-house counsel in a multinational company is preferred.
  • Legal Expertise:
  • Familiarity with Kenyan and African regional litigation and arbitration procedures, as well as relevant legal provisions.
  • Language Skills:
  • Fluent in English, with strong communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
  • Proficiency in Mandarin is preferred, particularly for those who have passed the Chinese judicial examination.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong inter-departmental collaboration and communication skills to effectively work with teams across the organization.
  • Ability to handle multiple legal matters simultaneously and provide timely advice.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan law, particularly in the context of business disputes, debt collection, and court procedures.
