Salary Range: Commensurate with experience – Graduate $84,077 – Proficient 4 $104,841 FTE Gross per annum, plus applicable Middle Leader Tier 2 allowance $12,648 p.a

Proficient 5 and above: $133,740 FTE Gross per annum

Newman Catholic College, co-located on James Cook University site, Smithfield, is Cairns Catholic Education’s newest college, joining a system of 29 other catholic schools and colleges. Opened in 2022, with approximately 140 Year 7 students and growing a year level each year until Year 12 is reached in 2027, its location on and interaction with the University presents endless opportunities to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. Newman Catholic College works collaboratively with James Cook University so that learning and teaching is enhanced at all year levels.
About The Role
The role of the Leader of Pastoral Coordinator (Year 7 in 2025) is to support the mission of the school through leadership in the support of students as college and family community members. The role covers elements of leadership, management, and community building, including parent engagement.
This Involves
- developing and implementing effective positive pastoral practices which provide for students’ wellbeing, and coordinating the efforts of staff in students’ holistic growth through ensuring that appropriate programs and processes are developed and followed at all levels to encourage students to embrace a way of living based on the values of the Gospel, and to manage student behaviours which are contrary to these;
- leading the parent engagement initiatives for the year level;
- supports the data collection processes of the College e.g. Naplan etc;
- ensuring the quality and effectiveness of teacher practice through appropriate supervision and coaching;
- developing partnerships with parents and carers and other appropriate agencies within and outside of the college, including James Cook University, Nguma-bada Campus, Smithfield, counsellors, and support agencies; and,
- prudently administering available resources.
Teachers are accountable to and under the direction of the College Principal or delegate.
