About the Role
The company, is an investment manager with private equity funds focused on renewable energy investments across Asia and Africa.
$800m in committed capital with a project portfolio that includes solar, wind, biomass, hydro assets and battery storage plants. Our client is a hands-on investor who takes an active role in the development, construction, and operations of its projects The Nairobi Fund has investments in Uganda, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, Zambia, Cameroon and Angola and is actively seeking to expand its footprint into other countries.
Salary: USD 50,000 – 75,000 per month, with additional performance-based bonuses and USD 3,000 annual insurance allowance.
Position Overview:
The role will include, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:
General
- Work alongside the team to become familiar with the team and their responsibilities, and with the portfolio of projects within the current fund to enable positive contributions to project delivery early on.
- Perform investment analysis tasks assisting and reporting to an Investment Director/Manager.
- Perform a variety of investment analysis work including modelling, research, investment paper writing, monitoring of investments and assisting in writing quarterly reports.
Due Diligence
- Evaluate potential project / investment opportunities from an investment and commercial point of view.
- Undertake research on specific target markets and issues related to the project.
- Input into investment committee papers.
- Consider actual or potential environmental, social and governance issues on a project including local attitude to the project.
- Perform site visits to potential investment sites.
- Perform financial analysis and modelling appraisal of projects.
- Maintain a database of potential projects for screening and analysis for the investment committee.
Investment Analysis
- Build project models to model the investment returns from the projects being considered for investment.
- Undertake research and write country research notes and assist with writing technology research notes as and when required.
- Research and analyse data in relation to projects.
- Closely monitor the performance of investments, liaise with project personnel and employees and ensure timely and accurate reporting of information relating to the investments.
- Coordinate with project partners, government and regulatory authorities, off-takers and project stakeholders.
- Work closely with lenders and co-investors in projects and provide a timely flow of information.
- Assist with the management of project financing closing and compliance, as required.
Reporting
Meet the company internal reporting and management requirements, using appropriate in-house systems where necessary.
- Attend progress meetings, internal BE meetings and investor meetings, as required.
- Produce reports, models and other documentation for your manager(s).
- Assist with and help deliver reporting requirements for the company and its investors.
- Highly analytical, organised and pragmatic professional with attention to details.
- Keen interest in renewable energy and investment.
- 4 -7 years’ experience working in accounting, corporate finance (Mergers & Acquisitions, and Transactions), investment banking or project finance, with exposure to renewable energy or infrastructure considered beneficial.
- Excellent Excel and financial modelling skills are required and advanced use of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written English and ability to write documents to a publishable standard.
- Additional language skills would be an advantage (in particular French, Kiswahili or other African languages).
- Enthusiasm and commitment to working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Willingness to travel and visit project sites across Africa.
Qualifications
- Relevant post-graduate Master’s Degree (preferably in Finance or Investment Analysis);
- Preference for CFA Charter holder or CFA Candidate.
