The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in sourcing, trading, and managing relationships within the coffee supply chain. The role demands strong quality knowledge, exceptional negotiation skills, and a passion for the coffee industry. The successful candidate will also demonstrate expertise in risk management to mitigate market, price, and operational risks.

Your key responsibilities

  • Source high-quality Arabica coffees from farmers, cooperatives, and suppliers in Kenya.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, exporters, and international buyers.
  • Analyze market trends, coffee quality, and pricing to develop trading strategies that deliver profitability.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in pricing and supply chain disruptions.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies, including hedging and contract diversification.
  • Manage contracts, logistics, and shipping to ensure smooth delivery of coffee to international markets.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to monitor budgets, payments, and pricing structures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coffee certifications, sustainability standards, and global market trends.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and cupping competitions.

Your profile

  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in coffee trading.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in agribusiness, commerce, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience with Arabica coffee, including sourcing and quality assessment.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan coffee supply chain is desirable.
  • Expertise in coffee cupping and sensory analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in risk management, including hedging and market risk analysis.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and risk assessment tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Swahili or other regional languages is a plus.
