Tiny Totos Kenya is a Kenyan registered company pursuing a scalable and financially self-sustaining model for creating a network of standard-setting, independent preschool daycares in the slums of Nairobi. We work with individual entrepreneurs to upgrade their businesses and ensure that they provide affordable, safe, and stimulating daycare services while enjoying growing profits from their business.

Tiny Totos is in the process of developing an eLearning platform using Moodle LMS or Open edX. We aim to build a user-friendly online space for teaching and learning and aim to have over 20,000 users on our platform hence the platform should be scalable i.e. accommodate growth of users and user requirement adaptation.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The developer should be able to customize Moodle LMS or Open edX platforms to align with project requirements, including theme customization, plugin integration, and configuration of course settings.
  • The Developer should be able to integrate third-party tools and plugins into Moodle LMS or Open edX platforms as needed, such as video conferencing, assessment tools, or analytics.
  • The developer should conduct testing to ensure the functionality, usability, and security of Moodle LMS or Open edX platforms, identifying and addressing any bugs or issues that may arise.
  • The Developer should document customizations, configurations, and technical specifications for Moodle LMS and Open edX platforms, providing clear and comprehensive documentation for future reference and troubleshooting.
  • The Developer should provide training and support to administrators and instructors on how to use Moodle LMS or Open edX platforms effectively, sharing best practices and tips for optimizing the learning experience.
  • The developer should collaborate with stakeholders, including project managers, designers, and other developers, to ensure alignment with project goals and requirements and also maintain open communication with stakeholders through regular updates, progress reports, and feedback sessions.
  • The Developer is supposed to ensure that Moodle LMS or Open edX platforms adhere to security best practices and comply with relevant regulations and standards, such as Data Protection Act 2019 and accessibility guidelines.

Education Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • specialization or coursework in e-learning, instructional design, educational technology, or a related field is beneficial. This provides foundational knowledge of e-learning methodologies.
  • A Certification specific to Moodle LMS or Open edX, such as Moodle Course Creator Certification or Open edX Developer Certification, demonstrates expertise in these platforms.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is advantageous, particularly for customization and development tasks.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems, including their architecture, features, and functionality, is essential. This includes understanding how Moodle LMS and Open edX operate and how they can be customized to meet educational needs.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles and tools is an added.
  • Strong project management skills, including organization, planning, and communication, are essential for managing e-learning development projects effectively.
