Director Fixed Business

Role Purpose 

Reporting to the CEO in the interim, the Director, Fixed Business will be responsible for Safaricom Group’s Fixed Business strategic and execution. The role will lead the development and implementation of fixed business strategic initiatives that drive growth and transformation. The role will drive business growth by accelerating the fixed broadband customer base, launch converged value propositions, and extend coverage.  This role will ensure that the fixed business strategies align with the overall Safaricom Group goals and objectives and will play a key role in driving transformational and innovation initiatives and programs.

As a key member of the Safaricom leadership team, the role will lead the fixed business as a value-based organization through better use of resources allocated whilst leveraging the Fixed Business team’ unique skills and knowledge of the business/industry.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities and Decision Ownership: 

Strategic Management and Planning 

  • Develop and implement the Fixed Broadband Business strategy direction for the Safaricom Group with changing contextual macro/microenvironment.
  • Lead the Fixed Broadband Business strategic planning process, including conducting industry analysis, identifying growth opportunities, and assessing risks.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the Fixed Broadband Business strategic initiatives, monitoring progress and making necessary adjustments as required.
  • Identify and accelerate fixed business growth opportunities by leveraging new technologies while delivering superior experience through automation and digitization. 
  • Monitor performance metrics to sustain health of the fixed business. 
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities.
  • Drive end to end business development, acquisition, and large-scale fiber solutions sales: enterprise, home and other property portfolios.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Fixed Broadband team in developing business cases, financial models, and action plans to support strategic initiatives.
  • Enable and offer value propositions that cater to consumer and enterprise customers across micro-segments with segment-based GTM.
  • Leverage AI for micro-segmentation, smart propositions and targeted cross/ up-sell activity. 
  • Identify interdependencies across business unit projects and harmonizes these to create synergy and unity of purpose.

Enterprise Systems Developer

Detailed Description

Reporting to the Manager – Enterprise Systems Planning & Delivery, the role holder will be responsible for development and 3rd line support of the Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application, Oracle Point of Service and bespoke oracle interfaces and software components. 

He or she will work with other departments within the company to identify requirements and develop solutions (database design, workflows, user/data interfaces). 

The role holder will also configure and/or customize Oracle ERP applications to meet business requirements using various database and software tools, assist in presentations of system functionality to new users and departments and enhance and create user and system documentation as needed.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and provide input on design approach, performance and base functionality. Ensure integration of designs across development team and design, build & test ERP components e.g. interface, conversion and report programs;
  • Appropriately monitor interfaces to oracle ERP. Provide training and support on oracle ERP modules and development tools, review & interpret technical manuals for the Oracle ERP system and assist in creating/update Oracle TAR’s;
  • Ensures the effectiveness of overall systems performance;
  • Design and develop front-end tier(s), middle tier(s), and /or back-end database tier(s) for business applications;
  • Participate in the capturing of business applications information needs and mapping of the same to the software and /or database components;
  • Perform data modeling to analyze and specify data structures within an application system;
  • Support new and existing application development by creating modifications and enhancements for Oracle ERP applications and perform high level system design;
  • Conduct business user requirements analysis and specification;
  • Specify computer system requirements for the solution of complex business problems and formulates designs for their solutions;
  • Perform the necessary technical design and development functionality to ensure that business application systems can be effectively developed and implemented;
  • Interact with clients to gather and refine requirements;
  • Create test plans, test data sets and perform automated testing to ensure all components of the developed systems meet specifications;
  • Work directly with the IT support personnel and teams to resolve issues identified and escalated during daily operations;
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents;
  • Formalize test plans and implement troubleshooting procedures.

Metro Planning & Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities 

  • Engage current and potential customers to understand demand on Metro Fibre for upcoming Fibre connectivity requirements 
  • Forecast Fibre capacity requirements both for the short and medium term 
  • Ensure Fibre networks are designed and to the agreed Technical and Safety Standards 
  • Engage Partners/Stakeholders in the Planning and Design of Optimal Metro, Inter-City, New Sites, Data Centre site networks to support customer requirements 
  • Release Metro network plans to cater for the next 1-3 years in liaison with the transmission team 
  • Develop and seek approval of efficient design methodology and tools for Fibre networks to ensure high availability and cost efficiency in Maintenance 
  • Drive innovation in Fibre planning in line with the best practices worldwide 
  • Develop, document and maintain the standards and processes to be used in Fibre Design 
  • Enforce standards in the fibre materials used network to ensure optimum QOS and network lifespan 
  • Maintain quality and up-to date design standards that ensure high availability and resiliency 
  • Generate and share the Metro fibre network footprint with customer departments within technology and the Business units to enable them to integrate other network elements and enable them to commercialize the Fibre network 
  • GIS data analysis generating reports and insights informing metro fibre rollout prioritization  
  • TCO analysis for Major CAPEX investments to ensure that it is in line with CAPEX strategy in the business. 
  • Drive CAPEX and OPEX Savings initiatives 
  • Keep up-to-date documentation on Fibre route plans 
  • Train fiber planners on Safaricom Design and Safety by Design standards 
  • Metro Fiber Designs, BOM and BOQ approval 

Qualifications

  • First Degree in Electrical and Electronics or Geospatial Engineering with a strong Fibre telecoms content  
  • 3 years of experience in GIS based Fibre network design and at least 2 years in Metro Fibre projects planning, deployment and support 
  • Familiar with ROW acquisition process 
  • Great understanding of the metro fibre network 
  • GIS proficiency; ArcGis, QGIS, Mapinfo 
  • Certifications in Project Management will be an added advantage  
  • Great Communications skills 
  • Ability to work within a team 

M-Pesa Africa – Change & Release Specialist

About the Role

This role is responsible for overseeing the controlled introduction of changes and software releases into the MPA environment. This role ensures that changes are well-planned, tested, and implemented while minimizing disruptions to business operations. The Change and Release Specialist collaborates with various teams to ensure that changes and releases align with business goals, maintain system stability, and comply with regulatory requirements. 

Responsibilities:

Technical Review:

  • Ensure the smooth running of daily technical review calls for Normal Changes (ITIL)
  • Ensure minimum service disruption due to technical issues with changes
  • Ensure clear and factual feedback to change initiators on issues during review
  • Offer support to the L1 team with technical review of minor changes
  • Support the Operational teams on technical topics
  • Offer technical guidance to Operational Acceptance Tests (OAT) team

Radio Access Network Support

Description

Reporting to the Team Manager – Access Network Support, the position holder will be responsible for providing long term solutions and support to Radio Access systems faults and problems, providing second line maintenance support & solving problems escalated from first line maintenance, interfacing with the suppliers of the radio equipment and following up to resolution on escalated faults, performing radio systems upgrades and major network configuration changes and developing tools for quick troubleshooting and corrective maintenance processes. The engineer will be on call 24 hours daily.

Key Responsibilities

Change requests timely completion to 100% level of accuracy >99.8% of the time.

Handle second line fault escalations and maintain high network availability. 

Escalate to vendors persistent network issues and follow up to resolution. 

Manage software upgrades to resolve issues and implement new features. 

Capacity upgrade for all RAN elements and to support regional optimization teams to achieve Network Quality KPIs within set timelines. 

Acceptance of access Network design plans implemented in the regions for all access project rollouts.

Radio systems quality assurance. 

All regional RAN Controller installations completed & accepted within set timelines. · Ensure RAN controller availability and performance is within set KPI’s. 

Handle all access configuration projects. 

Maintain access configuration database. 

Post configuration changes trouble shooting. 

Support regional optimization, maintenance and other business teams to deliver the set targets. 

Develop efficient configuration process through automation.

RAN configuration changes timely completion to 100% level of accuracy.
